Still haven't found the name of the painting though.
This is funny, I've been staying up late searching for the title of this painting by 'The Most Loving Surrealist Marc Chagall'. I was even unsure if it's by Chagall after loads of googling. Google's useless this time. I've been sleepless these days until I found his name on the bottom right of the canvas. Stupid me, huh? This is supposed to be something everyone knows if they appreciate artwork. Well, I was so certain when I saw it at the Sotheby's (or Christie's?) window on New Bond Street in London. My heart leaped and screamed 'Chagall' and like a paparazzi sneaking for something worth publicising, I took this picture.
Chagall's work was in Bristol's Valentine's exhibition in 2008 when I gradually grew facination for his work besides Frida's, Seurat's and O'Keeffe's (who else? Oh, Rothko!). Shame that photography wasn't allowed at that time or I'll have another collection of Chagall's 'bride series', erm, I call it 'bride series' anyways.
Oh, today's Labour Day, ridiculously I recalled 'Love's Labour's Lost by William Shakespeare' though I was never a fan of his and never really studied too hard on his work in university. I always think 'Love's Labour's Lost' is really something joking about men and mocking about how life and love intertwine and contradict.
Oh yeah, life and love. Chagall's love toward his beloved wife Bella is all over his paintings as many claimed. He defended that his work's not at all surreal but real (just as Rothko said that his work's never abstract; oh they're both Mark! Surprise!). Love is not surreal but real; he's right.
By the way, I'm not really fond of Notting Hill the film, but Notting Hill the place was somewhere to be remembered. So I grew my attention to Chagall's work not because of 'La Mariée' but because of the fabulous dorm ceiling painting he did for Garnier Opera House of Paris. And I love Garnier's work because of Phantom of the Opera. Every attachment is so much linked to another in my life. Yet my name's after a good friend of Mom's (bah-bah... not after the musical! Wrong connection!) AND yes, my thoughts have been jumping all around, skipping all the details the readers need to understand my thinking flows. How interesting.
Anyways, today, is Марк Шага́л's Day.

I went to see Rothko, but I also see life. There were a couple, an old man in a wheelchair pushed by a youngster, a little girl accompanied by her very tall father. I was shaking when I took this photo. I was shaking when I saw a glimmer of life, so I made it 'Seurated'.
Rothko was just a happy coincidence when I wandered around. He was a tragedy for his suicide because of his heart defect illness. The saying in Mandarin is somehow correct - long lasting suffering in illnesses breeds the hatred toward life.Christine 發表在 痞客邦 留言(4) 人氣(376)
